„Africa is the source“, sagt Paxslim.

Paxslim doesn’t want to explain what it means to be African. He wants to live it.
Born in Nigeria and raised between Nigeria, Canada and Switzerland, the rapper has always moved between different worlds. It’s exactly this experience that gave rise to Africa Only, or #AO for short — a cultural movement that aims to bring African identity to the forefront with pride rather than hide it away.
“Africa is the source,” says Paxslim. And that idea runs throughout his music.
On releases like DBD5 (dayz before d5ncin) and his album D5NCIN, he blends trap and hip-hop with his personal experiences and a clear political stance. It’s about hunger, ambition and the desire for a bigger life — but also about heritage, self-determination and Black pride. For Paxslim, Africa Only is therefore not a marketing concept. It’s identity.
In August 2026, he followed up with a new EP, LAMBO MUSIC. Balancing luxury, ambition and the classic rap dream of a “bigger life”, it also reveals an interesting tension: Paxslim wants more without having to leave his roots behind.
That’s exactly where the strength of #AO lies.
Because Africa Only has long been about more than music. Through Africa Only Radio on NTS, Paxslim is building a platform for artists and creatives from different parts of the continent. Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda — the series connects local scenes and shines a light on what has been there all along.
Paxslim isn’t looking outward for validation. He looks home first.
And perhaps that’s the most radical idea behind Africa Only: African culture doesn’t need to be discovered by Europe or America to be relevant.
It’s already here.
