Araris entstand als Breaking Crew und wuchs zu einem kreativen Kollektiv heran, dessen Mitglieder in den unterschiedlichsten künstlerischen Disziplinen tätig sind – von Tanz und Mode über Fotografie bis hin zu DJing und weit darüber hinaus. Das Atelier in Bern dient der Crew als gemeinsamer Experimentier- und Arbeitsraum. Das Fundament der Arbeit bildet eine tief verwurzelte Verbundenheit zur Underground-Kultur, geprägt von einem kollaborativen Geist und dem Verständnis, dass ein Kollektiv niemals abgeschlossen ist, sondern sich stetig weiterentwickelt.

Tanz ist dabei weit mehr als eine Kunstform – er ist eine physische und künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit sich selbst, die tief in die eigene Identität greift. Wird diese Praxis innerhalb einer Crew geteilt und zu einem gemeinsamen Lifestyle, strahlt sie in alle anderen künstlerischen Bereiche aus und hinterlässt dort Spuren.

Aus diesem Geist heraus entstand das Format „Wheel of Sounds Seven to Smoke“: ein Battle-Format, eingebettet in eine vollwertige Party. Die Mission dahinter ist es, die Clubkultur zurückzubringen und Menschen wieder zum Tanzen zu bringen. Acht Tänzer:innen treten gegeneinander an, während ein Musikrad das Genre jeder Runde bestimmt – von Hip-Hop über Funk bis zu unerwarteten Stilen. Nach dem Battle geht die Party mit einem internationalen DJ-Line-up weiter – kein klassisches Battle, sondern eine bewegende Nacht.

Dieser Geist zeigt sich auch im gesellschaftlichen Engagement: Gemeinsam mit der Freestyle Society organisieren Araris den „Cypher 4 Gaza“. Dabei werden gut erhaltene T-Shirts, Sweater und Hoodies gesammelt, zu Cypher4Gaza-Merch umgestaltet und am Event verkauft; der Erlös geht direkt an Menschen in Gaza. Ein Kollektiv, das nicht nur tanzt, sondern auch Haltung zeigt.

Araris was founded as a breaking crew and gradually evolved into a creative collective whose members work across a wide range of artistic disciplines — from dance and fashion to photography, DJing, and far beyond. Their studio in Bern serves as a shared space for experimentation and collaboration. At the core of their work lies a deep connection to underground culture, shaped by a collaborative spirit and the understanding that a collective is never fixed, but constantly evolving.

For them, dance is far more than an art form — it is a physical and artistic confrontation with oneself, deeply intertwined with personal identity. When this practice is shared within a crew and becomes a collective lifestyle, it naturally expands into other creative disciplines and leaves its mark there as well.

Out of this spirit, the format “Wheel of Sounds Seven to Smoke” was born: a battle format embedded within a full-scale party. Its mission is to bring club culture back and get people dancing again. Eight dancers compete against one another while a spinning wheel determines the music genre for each round — from hip-hop and funk to completely unexpected styles. Once the battle ends, the night continues with an international DJ line-up — not a conventional battle event, but an immersive night in motion.

This mindset also extends into social engagement: together with Freestyle Society, Araris organizes “Cypher 4 Gaza.” During the initiative, well-preserved T-shirts, sweaters, and hoodies are collected, transformed into Cypher4Gaza merchandise, and sold at the event, with all proceeds going directly to people in Gaza. A collective that not only dances, but also stands for something.
