Association QUARTZ

Quartz was founded after Kamil and Kriss noticed a significant gap in the support structures available to musicians in French-speaking Switzerland. While talent was abundant, many artists struggled to find professional guidance, industry connections, and opportunities to showcase their work.

Their goal was simple: create a platform where artists could fully express themselves and maximize their potential. Drawing from their own experiences in the music industry, the founders envisioned Quartz as a true talent incubator—one that accompanies artists throughout every stage of their development.

“We saw a lack of support and a lack of knowledge regarding the business side of music,” explains Osmanov. “We believed we could help artists from A to Z and give them opportunities that were not widely available in our region.”

One of Quartz’s first major projects was the creation of a mixtape featuring eleven tracks from eleven different artists. The project brought together a wide range of contemporary musical styles and highlighted performers who deeply resonated with the team.

For Kamil Osmanov, the project represented much more than a compilation. It was an opportunity to apply the lessons he had learned throughout his career—particularly the importance of teamwork.

“The most important thing is having the right people around you,” he says. “A great sound engineer, talented musicians, strong composers—building what Kriss and I like to call an ‘Avengers team.’ Once you have that, you can go very far.”

When selecting collaborators for Quartz projects, the founders focused on two essential criteria: motivation and excellence.

“We wanted the most driven people and the best in their field,” says Kriss Yassa Tena. “That was our objective from the beginning.”

However, technical ability alone was not enough. Human chemistry played an equally important role in the selection process.

“We always say that the best music is created with people you genuinely connect with,” Kamil Osmanov explains. “Creating that positive energy in the studio is what ultimately leads to better music.”

The founders acknowledge that the music industry has changed dramatically in recent years. Social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube have transformed the way artists build audiences and gain visibility.

“In the past, we had to create the platforms ourselves,” says Kriss. “We developed concepts, collaborated with media outlets, and built opportunities from scratch. Today, an artist can pick up a camera, post a video on TikTok, and potentially reach as many people as a traditional media outlet.”

While the tools have changed, the mission remains the same: helping artists gain exposure and build sustainable careers.

One of Quartz’s most successful initiatives was a pop-up event in Geneva that attracted approximately ninety artists. Hosted in a local concept store, the event transformed the venue into a temporary recording and performance space.

Each artist was given five minutes to perform over an original composition created by Osmanov. At the end of the day, one winner was selected.

The winning artist, SHAM LNZ, earned a coveted spot on the next Quartz mixtape—an opportunity that could significantly boost their visibility and career prospects.

“It was an incredible moment,” recalls Osmanov. “Ninety artists came through in a single day. It showed just how much talent exists and how eager people are for opportunities.”

The founders believe that Switzerland has everything it needs to become a major force in international music. Talent is not the issue; the challenge lies in creating the structures that allow artists to thrive.

“We already have the tools,” says Yassa Tena. “What matters now is perseverance. Artists must stay consistent, keep creating, and keep pushing their ideas forward.”

Quartz aims to bridge the gap that has long existed in the Swiss music ecosystem by offering professional support, fostering collaboration, and creating meaningful opportunities for emerging artists.

As the association continues to grow, Osmanov and Yasatena remain convinced that Swiss artists can compete on the global stage.

“Switzerland can absolutely be among the best,” says Osmanov. “Our role is to provide the support and professionalism needed to help artists get there.”

For Quartz, this is only the beginning.
